Last weekend, Ryan Gallagher was involved in the second performance of a mixed medias art installation at a new cafe in Austin. Called the Meiosis Project, it is a live workshop show where 6-7 artists craft their own media during a 45 minute piece. Elements include two musicians, a butoh dancer, a videographer, writer, glass painter, and camera operator/photographer.
Ryan is the camera operator/photographer and 30 of his photographs were the inspirational "seed" that each artist was given time to absorb before the performance. They provide the connecting theme between all the artists. The photographs are also incorporated into the video installation element but in a way re-mixed by the videographer.
Ryan says, "It has been a really unique show to work on and witness. It keeps changing and evolving every time we perform it. I hope to find a new videographer and shift into true photography at the performance itself."
