editor's note: Andrew's submission to the board explains better than I could ever paraphrase, so I'll let him speak (write) for himself:
One of my photographs was chosen for the Arts & Culture page of our local PBS television station, KETC-TV, Channel 9. I didn't know about this opportunity to gain exposure for my work until one of their editors contacted me after seeing this photograph on Flickr.
The sunset view was taken following an alumni event at Washington University in Saint Louis. I had hung around at an Art and Architecture social function and was one of the last to leave. I'd been in an in-depth discussion of photography, poetry, theater, and the death of Tennessee Williams. I had just finished telling this fellow about Flickr after he described his personal project of photographing houses that had been TP'd.
I walked out to my car and saw the sunset over the campus and could not resist taking out my camera (Nikon Coolpix 4300). Initially, I thought I would just take one or two shots, but the clouds and the sky became more intense by the moment. After about ten minutes, the entire spectacle was over. However, I continued to keep shooting the sunset as I drove westward (toward home) taking views through my car windshield.
The one over the University was by far the best. Somehow the rays of light seem to bestow a sense of higher purpose and learning appropriate to the highest ideals of college.
Other views of the sky are posted... in my photostream.
