I'm co-curating an exhibition that showcases my love for two favourite things: Coffee and My Neighbourhood.
Caffè Café
A CONTACT Photography Festival Show
OPENING RECEPTION
May 3/08 3pm-6pm
show runs through Aug 1/08
Side Space Gallery
1080 St. Clair Avenue West
Espresso at a small table, conversation in any of a dozen languages, a slight aura of distant places which could only be here, now. St. Clair has been the centre of café culture since opening Toronto's first outdoor patio in 1963. Population waves pass through the neighbourhood, people come and go; cafés are our constant.
This photographic reflection on local café life is a part of the Contact Toronto Photography Festival. Artists: Vid Ingelevics, Armando Lulu, Saajid Motala, Vincenzo Pietropaolo, Rebecca A. Pinkus, Estaban Leonardo Tamburri, Jorge Uzon, Luigi Ziani and Schuster Gindin.
Our opening is in conjunction with Toronto's Jane Jacobs' Day. There will be a local Jane's Walk at 1 pm. The walk tours the cafés on St. Clair West, beginning with Toronto's first, originally La Sem, and concluding at the Side Space Gallery for the opening of the show Caffè Café.
A fellow flickrite just hipped me to the fact that my participation in Toronto's CONTACT Photography Festival was given a nod by one of our National Newspapers. (Hint: scroll to no. 4)
Gushing over the company mentioned as featured artists in the same sentence. Nan Glodin. Martin Parr...Whoah!
I haven't gotten my hands on a print version, but they apparently used the un-designed version of the shot seen at left.
