Project Guidelines
This project will include entries, as indicated, in all of the themes as well as at least one major article in each theme and be presented in a magazine style - that is to say with a table of contents, specific sections, a combination of text and photographic elements with a logical progression through, one page after the other. Of course, it's the web, so we'll be able to hop around from place to place - but the general layout will be zine style.
There will be an Editor's Choice print edition.
General
- you may submit only one entry to each theme but can submit to as many of the themes as you wish
- we prefer if you can create new photos for the project, because that's one of the reasons we do projects - but due to the nature of this project, archived photos are acceptable ... but do try to have as many new photos as possible
- this is a project for your very best work - you will have a few months to plan and implement your ideas and we highly encourage you to be obsessive and, yes, even compulsive, in your efforts to create your very own magnus opus, so to speak - do Utata proud!
- the general Utata rule against full or partial frontal nudity applies to the project but we are not disallowing erotic work of a sensual nature - just walk a fine line, please
- we will be using the name you have indicated on your member page, if you wish your name to be different for the project, you will need to change your member page details
- web publication date will be July 30, 2007 and the deadline for submissions is July 20, 2007
- project will be print published and available on the Utata site on August 15, 2007
- if one or more of your entries is selected for the Editor's Choice publication, you will be asked to sign a publication agreement, the details of which will be advised as necessary
- all participants will have the chance to create an Artist Statement which will be displayed on their project page(s)
Photos
- only submit photos which you took and for which you have full copyright
- if you are using a photograph with a model, you must possess the appropriate model release - if your entry is selected for the Editor's Choice print edition, you will be asked to provide a bona fide release
- when you tag your photos, you are providing Utata with permission to display them for you on the project site - if you wish to revoke this permission, simply untag the photos
- see tags and presentation for information on how each theme will be displayed -
- in order to be considered for the Editor's Choice publication, photos will have to be available on flickr in a size suitable for printing
Writing
- only submit original writing over which you have full copyright and which has not been previously published
- see tags and presentation for specific details on each theme's presentation so your writing will be formatted properly
- writing may be in any language in which we are able to verify its appropriateness for the project
- if you are quoting another writer in your work, you must provide proper citations
