One of our recent Utata projects, Abandoned, currently has 248 photos. Here is one chosen at random.

Each weekday one photograph by a member of the Utata flickr group is chosen to be featured on the Utata Blog. Commentary by a Utata staff member provides a unique perspective on the photograph. We want to stress that the blog is NOT an attempt to single out the "best" photograph of the day; in Utata we don't engage in that sort of competition. Rather the blog seeks simply to provide readers with an engaging and sometimes thought-provoking image. Cool images, cool words ... the tao of Utata. .
As the name suggests, the Spotlight quietly illuminates a different photographer every day. The ever wise and charming Irina Souiki turns her discerning eye on the photostreams of Utatans and each day chooses a single photograph to bring to your attention.
Group projects are the heart of the Utata community. These visual explorations generally grow out of the discussions in the Utata forum on flickr. As a result the project topics are as varied as the group's membership. We've examined the romance of trains, we've delved into our own neighborhoods to find the wonderful in the ordinary, we've celebrated the local fair, and we've turned images into verbs.
Utata is constantly expanding, the popularity of digital photography has mushroomed at a staggering rate, and the photographic community on the internet grows as rapidly as an nuclear-irradiated monster in a 1950s sci-fi movie. How can anybody possibly keep track of what's hot, what's cool, what's hype and what's righteous? Well, the Daily Ink gives it a whirl. Check out the "Bryan and Brittney show" as we like to call it ... where you never do know what you might find.
Presented each Sunday by our Managing Editor, Greg Fallis, the Sunday Salon is a brief look at a photographer of note. A short biography is presented along with examples of their work and a discussion follows on the Utata forum. It's grand fun, we highly recommend that you join in.
Edited by the resourceful Ryan Brenizer, TECTtata is a column written by a variety of Utatans on a variety of technical topics that will be of interest to entry and mid-level photographers. Fully researched and illustrated, come and join us as we try and unravel the mysteries of photorgaphy.
There is more to Utata than taking and showing photographs; our feature articles explore the intersection of photography and culture. We're willing to examine anything pertaining to photography: who takes the photos, how the photos are taken, why they're taken, what to do with them after they're taken, how to look at them when everything else is done.
Everybody lives someplace. And everyplace has something interesting about it. Written by the members of Utata, the My Town series spans the globe celebrating the many places we call home.
Like so many other aspects of Utata, these short informal articles are created by our members. A UtataBite article is as likely to discuss the moral quandaries of portraiture as it is to consider the unique photographic qualities of the Holga camera. UtataBites can be seen as the digital equivalent of sitting around the campfire, passing on tribal knowledge and stories.
The Concept article is an odd beast. These are very short philosophical pieces on esoteric topics tangentially related to or illustrated by photography. The charm of a nap, the allure of the empty chair, the complexity of the rain cycle. These are the weird riffs of the contemplative person with too much time to think.
This is you. If you've ever participated in a Utata project, this is you. If you've ever had a photographed selected for the daily blog, this is you. If you've ever written for Utata.org, this is you. You too can have your mug displayed on this fine list of Utatans. All you have to do is participate. Or perhaps you are looking for Member Services where you can update your page or submit for a project.
