Little Suzy is cute. Let's acknowledge that right off and get it out of the way. She's cute, but she's not being cute. This child is thinking. Some children would be distracted by a cracker half the size of her head. But not Suzy; her mind is on other matters.

She could be warily watching her mother approach with a wet wash cloth. Or perhaps she's trying to solve a chess problem. Maybe she's thinking "There's cake to be had...and they gave me a cracker?" Conceivably, she's wondering if she can stay awake long enough to disprove her mother's contention that she needs a nap.

What passes through a child's mind is a mystery. But we can be certain that whatever Suzy is considering, in the meantime she'll keep working on that cracker.
