untitled

Row row row your boat, gently down the stream.

I have a window cracked open this morning, though it’s really a tad too chilly for it. I wanted to hear the birds singing while I looked at photographs. What I hear instead is the steady, rhythmic squeak of an unoiled swingset and an unseen child singing a nursery rhyme.

Merrily merrily merrily merrily

And I see this photograph. This astonishingly simple, beautiful, melodic photograph of a boy sitting on some mint-green steps, looking out a window at who knows what, and thinking. You can see him thinking. And it occurs to me what an amazing world this is, that I’m able to sit at my kitchen table and look at this beautiful child in what I assume is a house on a beach somewhere, and listen to another child, unseen, sing with innocent purity.

Life is but a dream.
