Seeing people absorbed in reading calms me, it is like the comfort of a purring cat.

Last year in Edinburgh a woman began a conversation with a homeless girl, she discovered that to the homeless sometimes a book can more important than a meal. A book breaks up the bleak monotony of street life, it is a vital conversation in a lonely life, it is an escape from the failure-labels we slap on today’s homeless. So she went home and started an initiative called Street Reads, and a year later she has built a proper collection of books and also has volunteers to help her make sure that they will be distributed where they are needed.

There isn’t enough good news in the world, and comfortable cats are not for everybody. I suggest you pick up a favourite book and start to read.
