There are so many ways one could describe a photo and the act of creating it:

It’s a meticulously engineered miracle of light.

It’s an exercise in composition, in which decisive framing makes the lines and contours converge and diverge in a manner pleasing to the eye.

It’s a happy accident, in which some perfect light stumbled into the timestream and everybody ended up smiling.

My favorite explanation is often the simplest, though — such as the caption this photographer included with the shot:

I went out in the rain with my camera.

Now we get to experience that astonishing vista too, and we get to see the perfect calm of the water and the mist rising in the hills. It’s all because the photographer had simply decided to be there, with camera in hand. And that’s all we need to know.
