Nate and the Dinosaur—what a glorious way to inscribe this photograph; such a picturebook title to have given it, such a storybook name. Nate and the Dinosaur, and instantly we know these two will be friends, or perhaps partners, perhaps traveling companions. We know they are equals, we know Nate will follow that faint path in the grass to where the dinosaur stands, and that a grand adventure will certainly take place.

Lovely to have that in our minds as we look at the back of Nate's hat (a very practical hat for both sun-shading and camouflage, how clever of him to have worn it today) and enjoy this moment before it all begins, before Nate looks over his shoulder and considers how soon he'll be expected at home, and if someone will wonder and worry and scold. But surely—surely they'll understand and forgive in the end, for what mournful soul could choose tea and biscuits over a road that leads to a dinosaur‽
