Text By Greg Fallis

I am weak to the morning sun. It is the most welcoming light, friendly and open-armed. The evening sun is always tinged with sadness and an indistinct haze of regret. But the first light of morning is as cheerfully innocent as a box of puppies.

The morning light hasn't been used yet. People haven't gone out walking in it, cars haven't driven through it, it is innocent of the morning news and blissfully untainted by celebrities in rehab. The morning sun brings with it the sound of the shower starting and the smell of coffee.

The morning sun returns us to first principles. Lux ab initio. It is light that cannot be further reduced through logic. It simply slides in, rubs itself against the windowsill, delicately touches a decorative bowl, and moves on. Soon it will be tarnished by the events of the day and after a few hours it will wearily take its leave. But now its fresh and sweet as doughnuts. Enjoy it while it's here.
