Text By Greg Fallis

Pity the poor long-suffering writer
Sitting alone at his cold-hearted desk
Watching his words shift from trite to still triter
Wondering why his work's so grotesque.

Pity the poor long-suffering reader
Sitting alone with a book in her fist
Thinking the publisher meant to mislead her
Wondering why she didn't resist.

Writers need readers, that much is certain.
Readers need writers like lager needs lime
Writers and readers, forever flirtin',
Unbalanced partners in conjugal crime.
