Text By Greg Fallis

It takes a while to get used to it...being alone. Going out alone. Taking walks alone. Buying groceries and running errands and attending estate sales alone, all alone. Nobody to share those wry little observations with. Nobody to complain about the last episode of Lost with. Nobody to eat the other half of the grapefruit.

You can get used to almost anything, given time. You can get used to having to change the ceiling lightbulbs by yourself. You can get used to pulling up a chair to get the vase out of the cupboard over the refrigerator. You can get used to an empty half of the bed. Given time, you can get used to it all.

You can get used to it...then you hear the sound of only a single set of footsteps on the sidewalk.
