Man, it so hot. Dry hot. Suck the sweat right off you 'fore it run down you face, it that dry, that hot. Too hot, man, to be outside. Too hot, too bright. Sun, it bleach the color clean out of the sky. Sky the color of a catfish belly. Best to be inside, day like this.

It cool here. Got the AC running, making sound like a bee in a tin can. But it laying out a slab of cool air. Cool air, man it come tumbling out, hit the floor, wrap itself round you bare ankle, make you shiver real nice. Waitress, she bring you cold cold beer. Best beer ever. God make anything better, he must keep it to himself, it that good, the beer.

Hat off, and cool air on the head. Drinking that beer, leaning back, letting that cool air tickle. Looking outside at that poison-colored light. Ain't putting the hat back on. Ain't going noplace, not for a while. It too hot, man, it just too hot.
