The Daily Ink is the voice of Utata. Yes, your voice, our voices ... all the voices. We'd be tickled pink if our members helped us define that voice. And this, Utatans, would be your chance to do that.

For more information on Fair UseA quote from Stewart Butterfield, by way of an interview with him and fellow Flickr founder Caterina Fake on internetnews.com
"We don't talk about upcoming initiatives," he said. "But I will say that even today, a lot of people buy photos from Flickr users. But people have to know the person, and send them a Flickr mail and they have to negotiate a price.
"It's a very high-friction process. Taking the friction out of that would be one of things Flickr could do to monetize," he said. "But we haven't made any announcements."
This move may not only be beneficial for flickr, who would likely take a cut of photo sales made through their system, but also for photographers on flickr with little experience in negotiating sales.
A trickier issue could be the effect on the flickr community at large. Who would opt-in and who would opt out? How might this influence the unprecedented adoption rate of Creative Commons licenses on flickr? Does this provide additional incentive to "game" interestingness?
Discussion and debate will abound, no doubt. In fact, why not head over to the Utata group and join in the discussion there...
Editor's Note:
Stewart Butterfield has apparently been mis-quoted in the above referenced article. Utata would like to clarify the record for our readers on his behalf. We're glad, we hate the word "monetize", too (which is the part he didn't say .. which is a pretty darn big part, eh?)
