The Daily Ink is the voice of Utata. Yes, your voice, our voices ... all the voices. We'd be tickled pink if our members helped us define that voice. And this, Utatans, would be your chance to do that.

"Pet" photography is and often maligned art, especially on flickr. While the genre is often trite and unoriginal, Pentti Sammallahti's images are anything but.
Our Managing Editor, Greg Fallis, describes it like this:
For me, the real magic of the work comes from the fact that the animals in his photographs always seem to be going about their business in a matter-of-fact but still delightful way. One senses they move through the frame...that they're just passing by and in the next instant, they'll be gone. And yet the landscape will remain, unchanging and unaffected and constant. That balance between the ephemeral and the eternal is, I think, the true theme of Pentti Sammallahti's work.
So the next time you see a photograph of an animal, think of Pentti Sammallahti and consider the full depth with which their unique realm can be depicted.
