For more information on Fair UseOne of the niftier features on my Nikon D80 is the ability to set the white balance by specifying the color temperature, in Kelvins, of your light source. The catch? You have to know what that temperature is first. That's why I was so pleased to find this handy list of average color temperatures for various kinds of lighting. A match flame clocks in at 1700 K, while summertime shade can crank it up to 8000. Also offered are tips for using white balance intelligently, allowing you to not only optimize the accuracy of your colors, but to easily fake more flattering light colors than you may actually have.

Great find! This just confirms what I have been doing post processing for the white balance of my photos shot in rooms lit with 60W light bulbs: ~2800K. Woo hoo!
