You're looking for the perfect mate, and have only one photo to impress contenders with. Which do you choose? Today's Seattle Times offers a bevy of suggestions on what NOT to put in your pictures. Here's the rundown.
- Don't post photos that are completely out-of-date.1974 might have been your prime, but honesty is the hot thing nowadays.
- Hacking your ex out of a couple photo and just posting your half? Not ex-actly classy.
- NO ONE looks good in blurry web-cam portraits. NO ONE.
- You should be the focus of your photo, not your Camaro. Even if it's hotter than you are.
The article is funny precisely because we've all seen or heard of these stereotypes. And the suggestions seem obvious - but apparently they're not, if the growing field of Online Dating Portraiture Consultancy is any indication. Match.com brought in Project Runway stylist Jay Manuel to offer tips; LookBetterOnline.com trades SOLELY in dating site photos. (Entreprenurial Utatans, take note!)
There's one piece of advice, though, that all of the gurus seem to have overlooked. I highly recommend posing in your UtataGear. After all, EVERYONE knows that Utatans are Uhawtans.

Haha, my roommate is a photographer for LookBetterOnline. I question the wisdom of glamour photos and photos that are so good that people will be disappointed when they see you. I posted deliberately silly photos of myself on Match.com -- and lo and behold, I'm getting married now.
