I had always been marginally interested in photography, but for a good part of my life that interest didn't progress beyond an appreciation for great photographs. My medium was elsewhere - dance, music, the paintbrush, pencil, chalk... Photography was expensive and the learning curve an insurmountable hurdle.
Then one of two cathartic events in my life happened: I realized that photography is my medium. The other one was the realization that computer programming is my professional calling.
Digital photography is immediate gratification of a creative impulse. What takes months in oil takes seconds with a camera. What takes years of training to get the quality of light captured in pastells takes an instant with a camera.
Photographs are the perfect artistic raw material. Rarely are they "done" right out of the camera, but that's where the fun starts. Digital photography has enabled many to learn "on the go", unafraid of the cost of experimentation. This results in sites like this one. Tribal instead of ivory tower photography. Flickr has become a wonderful teacher for me.
Thank you for checking out my photographic adventures.
