Carolynn, fondly known in Utata as Charlie, comes from a broad artistic background. She grew up in theatre; if you couldn't find her on stage, she'd be behind the scenes designing one thing or another. She has also studied dancing, music, painting, drawing, and sculpting. All of these disciplines have converged within her exploration of
photography.
Carolynn is striving to develop and focus her photography skills. She is interested in both unconventional portrait photography and art photography incorporating people. She is currently exploring women's relationships with art photography, particularly the concept of women as subjects versus objects.
Photography led Carolynn to work as an assitant to a professional photographer. Now she divides her time creatively on both sides of the lens.
Carolynn's pictures are not those cutsie shots you'd expect from a teenage girl. They give you an insight in her life, honest and blunt, colourful and never dull. I am drawn in her universe, curious and impatient to re-discover those years I have almost forgotten, when a camera can be either a gift, a third eye, a toy or a mirror. Carolynn never fails to impress me with her willingness to master every aspect of it. So far, so good!
