I'm English but I live in America for the moment. I quite like being foreign; it's a good excuse to take photographs of everything. I write things at countessian.com sometimes.
Recently, upon viewing one of her photographs, I commented: "Rachel … I love this whole pinball set and the way you did the macro / cropping - great abstract effect. Were you seriously standing right over the pinball machine with your camera pressed down on the glass?"
Her reply:
"I was practically laying on the thing. (And it's right beside a bar, which at the time was very crowded... ) I was having the hardest time avoiding the overhead lights reflected in the glass, so I had to contort myself a little bit. To top it all off, I was wearing a bikini and high heels at the time, and had a margarita in my non-camera hand. I like a challenge!"
And with this, Rachel became my photo hero. Look at her images and you will see the work of an artist who is spontaneous, fearless, fun-loving, and eclectic. Her photos are a funhouse ride through the colors and textures of her life in L.A., filled with the very randomness and joy of life itself, and I love riding shotgun.
I mean, how can you go wrong with someone who lists her occupation as "causer of subtle havoc?"
I am in awe. I want to be her evil twin.
