Digital cameras have come like a liberation to me... at last I can take as many pictures as I like. This has encouraged me to embark on some quite serious, long-term projects.
I love taking (spontaneous, snapshot) portraits but my real passion is what has come to be called 'street photography'. My real heros are from the early decades of photomagazines, Andre Kertesz, Robert Doiseneau, and the FSA photographers of the 1930s.
I am keen to experiment and to challenge myself with new projects and perspectives and to explore further the extraordinary capabilities built into digital cameras.
I think I first bumped into Lloyd on Flickr's Afterclass group and was instantly charmed by that combination of skill and generosity.
His photos are observant, clever and warm. He's one of those street photographers that have not just a keen eye but also genuine empathy for the lives around them.
That empathy extends to the way he talks to other photographers. Lloyd always seems to have a good word, a sharp observation, a piece of well-thought constructive criticism for others. Gotta love that.
