James Spinks

Bio

James has been taking photographs for most of his life, however only recently would he think of himself as a photographer. From early Kodak Instamatic cameras to the time his father took him to Comet to purchase their first SLR together. This was the first suggestion that photographs could (and should) be taken for their own sake and not just as memories. University and work brought with them a very dry period, the SLR stayed in his parent's loft and few, if any, photographs were taken. Recently the photography gene has been reawakened, driven initially by a love of gadgets James purchased his first digital camera and later, once able to notice the limitations of that camera, a digital SLR.

Testimonial

James' photostream has a documentary feel to it. Meander through his photos and you become immersed in his life - his family, his work, his neighbourhood, his travels, his likes and his dislikes. But his stream isn't an ordinary snapshot album. Many of the photos are taken from unusual perspectives, and on each page you will find surprises galore - look out for the legless woman, or the confusing traffic lights.

You can tell that James is someone who not only enjoys photography, he also enjoys life. He has a great, if weird, sense of humour, and his photographs will bring a smile to your face.

(Make sure, though, that you avoid his cowpat photos - tread in them and you certainly won't come up smelling of roses).
