I used to write until I became involved in book publishing ("grrr," says the cynic in me). After shutting down my micro publishing company a few years ago, I got reacquainted with my camera.
My favorite subjects are dogs, tattoos and cars. Luckily, I live in an area where there's an abundance of all.
The stereotype goes that L.A. has no soul. But take one look at the photography of Susan Brooks and you know that's not the case. She finds the hidden character in everything -- fast food signs, skyscrapers, almost-deserted streets -- and makes it beautiful. Plus, she rocks the hell out of a self-portrait. And has some damn cool dogs. She is also one of the coolest, most supportive people on Flickr. And if that's not soulful, then I don't know what is.
