As a writer and an artist, my mind is often far from my body at any given moment. But sometimes, being present in the here and now is essential. When I take out my camera, I am bound to one place at one time, searching the present for the moment of beauty and capturing it.
My work is drawn from my ordinary working life around the city of Hartford, Connecticut. I never go deliberately in search of things to photograph. Rather, I simply go about my days, ever prepared for something to catch my eye.
One of the most unusual aspects of my daily life is that I move from urban decay to agrarian plenty and back in the course of ten short miles. That dichotomy is reflected in my photography, which alternates between abstract images of rough metallic realism and more pastoral images of rural nostalgia. By photographing these opposing forces, I hope to integrate the competing aspects of myself that they represent.
