I am kind of new to semi-serious photography (I hope to keep growing at this!). Most of my work focuses on myself and my immediate surroundings. You will not find amazing shots of rare flowers and bald eagles. It's not that I am egocentric, I just happen to be a work-at-home mom, and my personal surroundings are rather mundane; hence, I photograph myself and what is around me hopefully in a manner that's interesting.
I used to work with a dinky point-and-shoot, but the kindness of Flickr Friends have helped me purchase a new camera by pitching in $500. I now use a Fuji S6000fd, and I love it because it's opening up a whole new world for me.
Sara Reed is one of the photographers that proves the eye is more important than the camera. Wandering through her photographs is an opportunity to find all the joys, sorrow, anger and hope that one finds in real life. She has the ability to communicate the essence of her days in a single image.
I spent the morning wandering through her photostream on Flickr, and was impressed with the range of experiences captured there. Family holidays, intimate moments, quiet escapes, friends, novel-writing, motherhood, fashion - she lives it all and then shares it with us in her photos. Take some time and a cup of coffee and see the world through eyes that can see life.
