Peterborough in the twentieth century was an industrial/factory town. We still have General Electric and Quaker Oats but this warehouse once owned by Outboard Marine is now a warehouse for the canoe collection at the Canadian Canoe Museum. When canoes were a prevalent mode of transportation, Peterborough was the centre of canoe manufacturing. Today, in the county itself there exists only one builder of handmade canoes.
