Built in 1899 as Madison New Jersey's first library, the ornate Richardsonian Romanesque Revival building known originally as the James Library Building was a gift to the town of Madison by D. Willis James, a rich copper magnate and philanthropist. The church-like building was embellished with beautifully painted tiles, ornate stained glass windows, intricate stonework & gargoyles, and a working bell tower.
The James Library Building is now the home to Madison's Museum of Early Trades & Crafts.
