Epigona: Levinthal

This month we'll be working in miniature worlds, emulating the work of David Levinthal. In Greg's original Sunday Salon, he spoke of Levinthal's earliest work having been inspired by a lack of the sun rising over the water on the West Coast. Unable to shoot his desired sunrise, the 17 year old Levinthal improvised, and his faux sunrise fooled his classmates and teacher. As Gred states, "The lesson for Levinthal was this: photographs can create their own reality." Some of his tableaus are meant to be realistic, and some depict complete fantasy, such as his "Bad Barbie" series, and World in a Box". With lots of toys, games and tableaus around at holiday time, there is likely to be a lot of inspiration nearby. Have fun!
