+ 6 decades ago the world was coming out of a huge war. India was moving toward independence from England, and towards partitions that would create what are now Pakistan and Bangladesh, amongst other changes. In that milieu a huge displacement of people occured, and my parents went to the subcontinent to help relieve a small bit of the suffering through work with the American Friends Service Committee. More than two years later they came back. My sister is named after the daughter of the British Viceroy who oversaw the partition. My father provided medical expertise, including the monitoring of certain lab equipment donated to various clinics in India. My mother helped start a university program for nutrition and dietetics. She brought back expertise in Indian cookery that I'm sure established my love for the scents and flavors of curries and many other Indian foods.
This is one of the cookbooks of hers that we found when we organized her personal effects over this past year.
The key is from an old hutch that stood in our house throughout my childhood - now with my brother [key doesn't do much good here!]. I believe it came from one of my grandparents.
Here are the elements for IP 26:
1 - a key
2 - something old
3 - close up
The first element is a key. You can take this literally or metaphorically. If you go the metaphoric route, we'd appreciate it if you can offer up a convincing road map for it.
When we say something old we're referring to something that has existed for a long time. I know we're going to be asked to define 'a long time' (hell, given past IP experience, we're probably going to be asked to define 'exist'). So let's just say 'old' means something at least 20 years old. BUT the old thing cannot also be the key. You can have an old key, but the key must have a separate existence from the old thing (there's that 'exist' again).
The final element, close up, should be fairly self explanatory.
