The minaret of one of the mosques that dot Algiers pokes through the trees that cover the Martyrs' Monument. When people think of Africa, they don't think of pine trees and greenery, and they rarely remember that the Mediterranean crashes against the northern shores of places like Algeria, one of the largest countries on the continent.
