This photo fulfills the rule of thirds, with the lines cutting the photo vertically in thirds, and the waves and beach sloping through the thirds horizontally. I personally think that the faux lomo effect adds to the rule of thirds in this shot.

Photo #2: umbrella in the sun
I think this photo breaks or appears to break or is vague on the rule of thirds, with the horizon and the umbrella centered vertically and horizontally. However, the pier on the left side and the diagonal sand do add some weight to the shot, making it fall into the "gray area" in the rule of thirds.
