The flower in the foreground seems to be reaching out, as it stands totally distinct, among a sea of a different species of flower. But the scene is harmonious, as nature always is. It is possible to be distinctive and yet harmonious with our surroundings, no matter how different we are.
Techtata: The foreground flower, the focus of the photograph, and the dominant object is at the intersection of the right-most vertical and lower horizontal thirds.
More on my Flowers set.
Techtata: A picture I took while experimenting with wide angle lenses and acute depth of field. I started with a low angle trying to get a good composition, and as I swung the camera around, what I liked the most was this composition which puts the rule of thirds flat on it's face! I got the depth-of-field I wanted, but my favorite part is how the horizon breaks the picture in two, and the tree breaks it in two again.
