Photo #1: Did you hear what that quack did?

There are always ducks to be found in the man-made wetland area behind the old lunatic asylum. I managed to capture them in a composition that (as far as I can tell) follows the rule of thirds. The two groupings of objects rest in the top and bottom third of the frame and roughly 2/3 of the frame is water. I also like this composition in general. Even though the bottom duck is facing the edge of the photo, his bill and body lead the viewer's eye in and up toward the larger group.

Photo #2: Ducking Along

In this photo, I tried to break the rule of thirds by placing this little duck close to the centre of the shot. I think it still works because the duck's motion is almost directly at the viewer and his wake draws the eye in toward his body. The wake also served to cut the composition nearly in half horizontally. In addition, if you consider the duck and disturbed water together as one element and the still water with reflection as another, it feels as if the ratio is almost 1:1.
