Integral Yoga building, West 13th Street - From the archives, 2001

This is the main center in the US founded by Swami Satchidananda (who gave the opening talk at Woodstock) in the sixties. Where yoga, meditation and vegetarian organics, started in earnest in the US.

The lilac had a wonderful fragrance and the planter by the Peace Poles also had interesting flowers. The yoga classes and other events are the IYI are noteworthy for their affordable prices and adherence to yoga as taught by the original masters. Lunch at the fourth floor teachers dining room is there.

Yoga is now so mainstream .. mission accomplished .. uh sort of ;-).

Next door, the Integral Yoga Natural Foods foodstore was the first organic foodstore in New York City - some 30 years ago. That also has come to be nearly mainstream .. Whole Foods has successfully brought the idea of consuming a little more intelligently to the mainstream - the first Whole Foods store in New York City opened a few years ago a short walk from here, on 7th ave and 25th Street.
