...when you find yourself in a foreign town and you realize you have no idea whatsoever of how to get anywhere it was you wanted to go in the first place.
Ask nicely.
Of course the man with the umbrella made it completely unclear that he hadn't understood one single thing he was asked about - and gave exactely the opposite direction.
