Utata Thursday Walk 894

The world is on fire, literally and figuratively, these days. And for those of us living in the Great Lakes region of eastern North America, the skies seems to portend the End of Days. Or at least they do from Yankee Stadium in New York City. Since Sunday evening the air makes one feel they are near a campfire as the smoke from thousands of forest fires in Ontario, Quebec, and Nova Scotia continue to burn and smoulder. It's been almost two decades since we had multi-day air quality and health indices values hitting very high risk. Those were caused by smog and ozone because of coal-burning power plants. Our summers have been pretty clean since we decommissioned our coal-fired plants. Of course, multiple forest fires are a different story. Here the issue is particulate matter smaller than 2.5 micrometres. These particles are small enough they can penetrate into blood vessels. Think about that as you whiff the air of smoke. So, I wouldn't begrudge you if you took a pass this week on the Utata Thursday Photo Walk. But, if you managed to go out and take photos, then tag them with utata:project=tw894 and post one small image in this thread.
