Welcome to the annual "Big Project". Our third such endeavor, this is our most ambitious project and we are very proud of the level of artistry and creativity evident throughout. Scattered throughout the sections on this site are amazing images, wonderful narrative and some very striking examples of "collections". The themes for this project are all based upon more than the single image - from "nine alike" in the stock category to the "six related" in the project category it's all about taking photography beyond the single image and creating photographic anthologies.
Each of the six sections has its own table of contents where you can locate individual project items by thumbnail or name. Additionally, for easier navigation, we have included a comprehensive list of contributors.
We are pleased and proud to present this "big project" to the public and we encourage you to take the time to view each entry and, if you're inclined that way, to leave a comment on their flickr pages. Each item in the project is stored on flickr and links back to the original page in the member's photo stream.
Each project page includes the menu shown above, so you can navigate to any section from any other section. Each section, as already mentioned, has its own table of contents.
The stock section is presented in a "contact sheet" format with nine alike images shown in a 3 X 3 grid. Intended to allow members to show off their technical skills and their ability to devise interesting methods of shooting similar objects, it's a very interesting theme with some truly stunning entries.
It may be that portraits are the most common sort of photograph taken - from snapshots to formal or staged shots, portrait photography is one of the most beloved of all photographic art forms. Here, Utatans show us their stuff with some very unique and beautiful portrait collections. Arranged in groups of six photos per participant, this is a section you can look at over and over, finding some new detail each time.
Landscapes are the universal language - they explain much about us as tribes of people and put where and how we live into a unique context. Generally considered amongst the most beautiful of photographic subject, Utatans do not disappoint and this section will "take you away" to other places in glorious detail.
The only section without a unifying theme, portfolios are six photos chosen by the photographer to represent themselves as artists. These are the ones they'd print and mat and put into their portfolio case - the best of the best of the best, as it were. We guarantee you won't be disappointed and we suspect you'll be as blown away as we were by the talent demonstrated.
With the next section, one of two themes which are narrative based - where the photographs work in tandem with the artist's words to create food for your brain as well as your eyes. From informative to editorial, these folks have something to share. Illustrated with up to six photographs, we're sure you'll be as interested as we are with what these writing Utatans had to say.
It's the wonderful "catch-all" category where all the cool things that didn't fit into one of the other categories go to be shared with you. Guaranteed to be a personal favorite of many viewers the entries range from quirky to poetic - some with narrative and some without - and all with a tremendous sense of purpose and energy.
