Artist's Statement

As a photographer, I use photography as a form of personal expression [as a fine artist], and as a tool on my spiritual path [as a zen buddhist]. These tools and technologies come naturally to me, and, as such, come to act almost invisibly as part of my process. I have sought to liberate myself from the studio, from the desk, instead choosing to work with mobile technologies and the creative and personal freedom that brings. I breathe the same air as the flowers in my images, I sense the ocean as I record it's life-breath through long exposures.

Like a digital zen monk [hand empty, hard drive full], I work with both camera and computer, to root out the essence of things, not just to capture the moment, but to experience and share the living moment. I seek the essential core, not the surface of things, equally applying my approach to artifacts, locations, people and experiences. Carrying these common threads through all my work, I seek to bring and share an ambience, a sense of peace, of calm, of silence, both inner and outer.
