When I first started taking photographs and composing images, the pictures were a way of solidifying the stories that were part of my day, or surfaced in my memories.
A camera gives me the power to show the world on my terms. Although I draw a great deal of inspiration from early cinema, I like to believe that having avoided television and magazines for most of the last decade has helped me portray an untainted version of the world. When people describe my work as "fairytale", it seems pretty clear that they don't mean the sanitized Disney versions of folk lore.
During the past few months I've been enjoying experimenting with ways of using pixels as I'd use paint. Post process play with what I've chosen in the camera makes me feel like the image is not just here and now, it can be any time and place I've known or imagined.
