I come from the Chicagoland area, but I'm living in New Zealand.
I've finished my degrees in Law and Commerce, and I'm a huge geek. I love new toys and new gadgets. I'm now pursuing a PhD in Information Systems.
I've had a camera for ages, whether it was an old Polaroid or my Nikon d50, so photography has always played some part in my life.
Right now, I enjoy taking pictures and trying to improve my skills. It is only recently that I have really gotten into photography, so it's fun to see what comes of it.
I don't have a certain type of photography that I do, so how can I explain it? I photograph what intrigues me, what interests me, what catches my eye. I've drawn and painted, I've always enjoyed art, but what drew me to photography had little to do with art and more to do with capturing memories. And then I started to learn about what you could do with a camera and some ability to see things in a certain way...
My photography has become more minimal to try to show contrast and differences and really bring out the details in things or show them from an angle that you wouldn't normally see them from. Sometimes my photographs are silly, sometimes they seem mundane, and sometimes they're simply pretty. I like all of these things.
In the Utatan I participated in two projects. The first of these is the landscape project where I aimed to show Wellington at different times of the day from different places. Some are older shots, some are new, but they are all Wellington. The other project is the stock photography project. My goal was to use light and shadow to bring out the detail of a simple piece of origami in different ways. The stock project was even more of a challenge because it required seeing a simple object in so many different ways.
