I have a great love for urban photography and spend the majority of my excursions finding beauty in the decay and destruction of buildings once familiar, now reclaimed by the elements and time. When people abandon a site, they leave bits of themselves behind - books, office materials, posters, couches, even a teddy bear. These items are clues to the past, giving you an idea of what the building was like in its heyday. I try to bring this sense of the past out in my photography, to provide a connection with the location I am shooting and at the same time tell a story.
On every excursion, I shoot only what I see, trying to interact as little as possible with my environment. My aim is to document the location within it’s decay timeline and do not compose any of my shots by moving the objects present.
When I need a break from shooting the beautiful decay ever-present around us, I indulge my senses and quick shutter finger shooting artists at festivals in Toronto. This momentary indulgence in high spirit and zest of life balances out my constant search for urban decay.
