Aaron Siskind was a member of the Photo-League in New York in the 1930's producing a fine body of documentary work in his Harlem Document. He went on to be on influential teacher for over 20 years, at first the Chicago Institute of Design and later at the Rhode Island School of Design. His work became more abstract and concerned with formal qualities, with pictures of peeling walls, signs etc.
