My camera

I have a love-hate relationship with my Canon SD400. Still, it's the camera I pack daily and use most often.

If pressed to extoll its virtues, I'd say that the SD400 is tiny, light and sleek, and fits easily in the hand for unobtrusive captures such as this one at Millenium Park in Chicago. It does a fast refire, and holds a huge memory card. The battery lasts for a long time. And it produces a mysterious luminous effect in just the right lighting.

Yet often, I find myself cursing its poor performance in low light, or humiliated in a museum by the unintentional firing of its flash as it seems to 'forget' settings. It also tends to freeze when you least expect it, resulting in my missing a crucial moment of a performance, or spontanous street happening.

At some point I'll pass it along to someone else...and then what? I've gone lo-fi recently, experimenting with a Holga film camera, but I doubt it will ever become my primary camera, simply because I love instant gratification far too much.

Canon SD400, can't live with you, can't live without you! -- clink !
