once again, at night

Rob Ireton

Thanks to J. Star for the use of the tripod.

Same subject and nearly the same composition as earlier today, but in the dark.

I thought I'd explain a little about the process I used to get this look. I was happy with the composition out of the camera, but the light on the statute really accentuated the blotchiness of the metal surface. There were also some color highlights that looked like chromatic aberration, but which, I think, were just from colored lights on near-by buildings--either way, they had to go.

I used the channel mixer in the GIMP to get a good B&W version, then I used the Sample Colorize filter to apply a tone-map that approximated how I imagined the statue 'should' look. This is a technique I learned in this tutorial.
