This is Theodore Roosevelt Bear, my constant companion of early (and later, too) childhood. He is a very special bear, because before he was mine, he was my mother's. She received him when she was about 10, as best she recalls, so he is quite an elderly bear now. We took him to a bear show a few years back, and an appraiser said he was a 1940's Gund (!!) and worth only a modest amount (due to his worn condition)--but who can put a price on love?
When I was little, I always thought that I would pass him on to my daughter, but when the time came, I decided he was too frail to take another child's rough handling (but I also couldn't bear to give him up). Anybody who has read the Velveteen Rabbit knows what I mean when I say he is a Real bear.
