The Holy Snow Disk

Anticipation

Rescued from the cluttered garage, the old snow disk was scrubbed and cleaned until its red plastic glistened. It was installed in a place of honor by the door, ready for the first snow of the season. And there it sat, day after day and week after week…a snow disk without snow.

If a thing intended to be used is NOT used, it becomes mere decoration, an ornament. So the snow disk ceased to be a snow disk and gradually became the pretty red thing by the door. For all the use it received, it might as well have remained in the dusty garage window.

It gathered dust. It seemed to give off an aura of disappointment. Just to look at it was to be reminded of promises not kept, of potential unfulfilled. Eventually it was removed from the doorway. The Holy Snow Disk in purgatory.
