"Who will be a friend?"

Who will be a friend?

When a child is born, it has no friends. Certainly the baby has family and people who love it dearly. There are people who would sacrifice all that they have and all that they are to nurture and protect the baby.

But of the hundreds and thousands and thousands of people who will play a part in the life of the baby, the child, the adult, as it grows; who will play the role of a friend?

A person interacts with countless people, in school, in work, in college, on the street, in the pub, the disco, the beach; in life. Yet, few people will become a friend. Why?

Friends become friends because they have common interests and shared thoughts.
Friends become friends because they have opposing views.
Friendships grow because two people are always there for each other.
Friendships grow when two people are separated by great time and distance.

Friends come and friends go.
Friends are chosen and rejected.
Friends are abandoned and collected.

A friend can last a lifetime or a moment.

Of the countless possible interactions in life and the countless billions of choices made in the life of a person, which ones will lead to friendship?
