Landscapes were incredibly important in the development of photography as both a craft and an art. Why? Partly because it was pretty, but mostly because it didn't move. It took a long time to expose the photographic plates used by early photographers. Those cameras were heavy buggers with awkward tripods; once you got it set up, you wanted to leave it up for a while.
It seems pretty obvious that a mobile device capable of fitting in your pocket would give a photographer a lot more flexibility … and they're much better on your back and knees.
