Nine Mile Run - a right to be here
My relationship with Frick Park and the ecosystem restoration project known as Nine Mile Run has a parallel with my own work as a practicing psychotherapist. The children that enter my office have been abused or neglected, abandoned in some way by their world. Or they are adults with a history of abuse, and continue to suffer the effects of trauma or loss that they barely recollect (or deny) in the present, the only evidence of damage being the troubled lives they find themselves surviving in the present, questioning, often in silence and by their actions, if they matter anymore, or that they even belong on the planet. Sometimes they simply experience an unexplained and vague sense of loss. They experience a loss of self, and embody the antithesis of narcissism.
